WRESTLING

Brian "Seraiah" Wood has always been a natural athlete with raw power and abilities and it was at the young age of 9 years old that he was guided to Wrestling by Secrest Elementary School gym teacher, Mr. Carpenter.

This Brian believes saved his life in many ways especially in regards to anger, emotions and untamed energy. he states candidly that he would be in jail of dead if wrestling was never introduced into his life and he and his family thank Mr. Carpenter for taking the time to guide a unfocused youth into a bright and better future.

As a youth he racked up State Championships but in high school and the unstable inconsistency of coaching he felt unfulfilled as he Graduated Arvada High School being a Four-Time State Qualifier, Two-Time District-Regional Champion and placing a disappointing 3rd and 5th in Colorado State Championships. He was a Three-Time Junior National Competitor in Freestyle and Greco-Roman but fell short of All-American Status each time.

In 1995, his drive for success and learning led him to the University of Wyoming, which was the closest Division 1A College he could attend while being near to his dear family. It was here that he grew into the athlete he was destined to be and it was here that he won the 1999 Western Athletic Championship at #165, defeating the #6 Ranked Rangi Smart of BYU and became a NCAA National Qualifier. In 2000 he was Ranked Top 20 in the United States and fell short of going to National his senior year due to late season injury. This however was one of the humbling and educational experiences of his athletic career and is something he uses for motivation as a athlete and as a coach and mentor.

Brian was Head Assistant Wrestling Coach for Arvada West High School beside his good friend and coach, Jim Hafke. He also was Head Wrestling Coach for Arvada West Youth Wrestling Club (Ages 4-14) for three years and then began his own Team called Next Level Legends, which is now more of a Private invite Only Team for ages (9-12). 23 years later, Brian looks back and sees how wins and losses, trials and tribulations have molded him into the man he is today, a man of promise, intention and humbleness.

Testimonials
Brian Wood worked with me as a guest clinician at the Rulon Gardner Summer Camp Series. I invited Brian at the request of his reputation for providing a unique Eastern approach to the sport of wrestling. Brian taught solid fundamentals of wrestling. He combined philosophy with technique in a way that is unique in the sport of wrestling. Brian's approach taught some important lessons about how to approach the mental challenges that wrestlers face. He taught warm-up, stretching, and strength building exercises that are unique in the sport of wrestling, but are very specific to the sport. The exercises build core muscle strength and balance that wrestlers need and use. It was a privilege working with Brian and I would recommend Brian as a camp clinician. I plan to continue to work with Brian.
