Brian began wrestling at the age of 9 and 28 years later he still maintains his passion and love for grappling. He was 2 X All-State (Colorado, United States) and followed his dream to the University of Wyoming where he won the Division 1 Western Athletic Conference Championship in 1999 defeating the # 6 Ranked competitor in the U.S.A., and qualified for the National Championship. In the year 2000, he was Ranked Top 20 in the Country but due to a late season injury did not return to Nationals. In 2006, he was introduced to Jiu-Jitsu and submission grappling, in which he quickly excelled competing in Advanced (Brown Belt NO-GI) Divisions as well training with many recognized Black belts such as Mauricio Zingano (Zingano BJJ & Black House), Alvin “The Kid” Robinson (Under Royce Gracie & The Lab) & Renato Virissimo (BJ Penn’s - Hawaii). His path was directed to the exciting and intense world of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts - Cage Fighting). Like many star wrestlers, the only option after college is to compete in MMA and so began his quest for self-experience and testing of will. His first bout was at Ring of Fire, one of the countries biggest promotions, and shined in front of 5,000 screaming fans. From there he quickly gained attention from promoters and inspired fans with his unique spiritual approach to competition and sportsmanship.
As a youth, he fell in love with Kung Fu and as millions worldwide he was dramatically influenced by Bruce Lee and his brilliant mind and unmatchable style. He would mimic the movements and style of Bruce and years later to his great surprise he found himself learning Wing Chun, the original style taught to Bruce Lee by the legend Yip Man and Wong Shun Leung. Brian studied extensively with Sifu Stephen Joffe (Boulder, Colorado - MartialWorks.com) in the styles of Wing Chun, Pekiti Tirsia Kali (Philippine Blade Fighting), Muay Thai, and Qigong. He learned some devastating techniques, forms and the infamous Wing Chun Wooden Dummy. Continuing his Chinese Kung Fu enlightenment, he was blessed to train and live with Shifu Yan Lei (34th Generation Shaolin Warrior Disciple) when he came to the United States for his first visits. Through Shifu, Brian learned many styles of Qigong (Ba Duan Jin and Hard Style Body Conditioning) as well as Sanshou techniques, Shaolin forms and principles which he carries with him to this very day. Master Christophe Clarke (Tai Chi Gold Medalist and WuShu Kung Fu Specialist) instructed Brian on the subtleties of class and charisma while honing the intricacies of being a versatile stage performer.
Brian was blessed to train in Chiang Mai, Thailand with World Champion, Lamsongkram Chuwattana and Tiger Muay Thai Head Trainer Kru Phet. Prepping the way for Thailand, he studied Muay Thai with ISKA World Champion and UFC Star, Duane “Bang” Ludwig, as well as British and European Thai Boxing Champion, James “The Hammer” McSweeney, who trained under Lucin Carbin (Dutch Thai Boxing Legend 200-0 Record with 49 World Champions). He worked closely with Western Boxing Coach and Trainer, Joe Trujillo (Denver, CO), who has helped coach some of the UFC best such as Rashad Evans, George St. Pierre and Shane Carwin. As a top level athlete, trainer and coach himself, Brian quickly evolved and made any technique he learned his own and added his own flow and energy to create his own style known as Dragon Tao.

"The Yoga Sutras attributed to the Sage Pantanjali are used as a source scripture by many traditional Yoga Systems.

"As a clinician, Brian has worked our camps for the past two years. He does an excellent job of demonstrating great technique while also stressing the urgency of taking care of yourself and your opportunities to compete at a high level. This past year, Brian did a wonderful job of adding yoga training to our camp systems. He did a great job of demonstrating the techniques and relaying the importance of yoga in wrestling.
